Prius Punch was developed in December 2006 by Danielle. Briggs. She attributes its creation to a visit from her ex-pat friends Megan and Noah, who are currently residing in Guadalajara. During their trip, one of them commented that there were a lot of Prius in the Portland area. They had left for Mexico just as the Prius was starting to come out. Ms. Briggs then began to notice that they were, in fact, everywhere. Being nostalgic, she reflected on the games of her youth, and thought extensively of Slug Bug and the joy it had brought to her life. Because the "Bug" was discontinued by German automakers in 1975, their numbers have dwindled. So the idea blossomed into what is now known today as "Prius Punch".

Since then, the game has evolved and taken new shape. Research was done to determine what the official Slug Bug rules had been. It was learned from the reputable and world-renound historians of Wikipedia, that Slug Bug's rules actually varied, just as she suspected.

The rules of Prius Punch are as follows and are subject to change:

Rule 1) If you see a Prius, you punch your opponent. You are not required to shout the color of the Prius, but you may opt to say "Prius Punch" if you choose.

Rule 2) Refrain from attacking your opponent. The idea is to not physically harm them because that would cause a disinterest in playing the game. Simply punch your opponent in the arm or a leg; don't aim to bruise them.

Rule 3) If you leave the vicinity of a Prius that you have seen, you may use the same Prius if it leaves your range of sight. "Punch backs" are allowed in these cases. Otherwise, only one punch is allowed per Prius.

Rule 4) If both people vote to not play the game, the game can be discontinued for one day.

Rule 5) You may "challenge" your opponent if you don't believe they saw a Prius. This usually involves parked Prius and requires the driver to go around the block. If the vehicle in question was not in fact a Prius, the opposing player gets five punches.

Rule 6) If you see two Prius in a row, you get a double hit. If they are the same color you get 4 hits.

Rule 7) Drivers of the Prius are expempt from using their own car when playing the game.

Rule 8) Whoever gets the most punches in one round wins! The players may determine the lenght of each play. For example, if it is a road trip, when reaching the final destination the game could be considered ended. Players may also opt for all day games.

If you have any questions or comments, feel free to ask them. The game is in it's beginning stages and is considered malleable.

*Note* It must be noted that a different version of the Prius Punch game was created in June of 2006 as documented on Urbandictionary.com. Ms. Briggs does not claim any association with the game and had not been aware of it prior to her creation of the game.
